YouTube will be introducing a fact-check box in search results for topics that are vulnerable to misinformation. The feature will eventually be available worldwide and is currently made avail to some users in India.
Let’s view an example by YouTube on what the information panels look like.
YouTube said that it has been working on this feature with some third-party verified fact-checkers. The fact-check panels will automatically expose false claims by pulling information from third-party sites.
Videos with misleading information will still appear in search results, and the fact-check panels present will be more of a warning to users on what they’re getting into.
But YouTube cannot wholly remove content that spreads misinformation unless it violates the platform’s community guidelines. However, users can still watch video contents if they want to.
Fact-check panels will not impede users from being able to access content. The feature is designed merely to keep users informed and cautioned.
