Google to update Googlebots and to add AR to the search result

The most anticipated Google I/O conference has kick started amid the anticipations and possibilities rumored in the social news. Google enthusiasts around the world are eager to know the possible come outs from Google this year.

Google I/O annual conference has released new updates, and we could not stop gushing and spreading it to our readers of the site.

Update of Googlebot

Googlebot is made continually updated whenever the new version of Chrome is released. Earlier, Googlebot used a web rendering service based on Chrome 41. It seems like it is developing a quantum leap to Chrome 74.

“Today, we are happy to announce that Googlebot now runs the latest Chromium rendering engine (74 at the time of this post) when rendering pages for Search. Moving forward, Googlebot will regularly update its rendering engine to ensure support for latest web platform features.”

Google’s developer advocate, Martin Splitt announces that the updation to Chrome 74 refers to Googlebot supports over 1000 new features.

Google confirms the test but did not disclose when it would update its web crawler.

Splitt also mentions that there are some limitations to the update of Googlebot and announces that,

“You should check if you’re transpiling or use polyfills specifically for Googlebot and if so, evaluate if this is still necessary. There are still some limitations, so check our troubleshooter for JavaScript-related issues and the video series on JavaScript SEO.”

Google’s Augmented Reality Model

The company at the Google I/O conference pronounced exciting features in Google search that uses Google Lens and Augmented Reality(AR).

The feature uses a combination of camera, computer vision, and AR to cover information and content onto a user’s physical surroundings. Chances are more to roll out the AR feature in the search result later this month, where users can enable to view and interact with 3D objects.

People can search for a 3D model and can place it in their physical world with the phone’s viewfinder. Amazing!

Wayfair, an online furniture and home decor store are working with Google to have its 3D model surfaced in the search results. Other partners include:

  • Visible Body, etc.

Google Lens

The new Google Lens features are accessible from the search bar in Google’s mobile application. It is all set for an upgrade to offer more visual answers to visual questions.

Some of the updates to Google Lens:

  • Automatic translations: A user can place or point Google Lens at a text, and it will translate it into 100+ languages.
  • Restaurant menu searches: Point Google Lens at a menu and pops up with the information about reviews, photos, and items of food.
  • Text-to-Speech: Place Google Lens at a text, and it reads out loud to you.

Google disclosed about bringing the text-to-speech feature first to Google Go app before brought to the main app.
