Instagram tests an option to let you adverise your existing Instagram shoppable posts with Ads Manager.

The platform is letting a few select businesses test this experience. Shoppers that tap on these ads will be taken to a product description page within Instagram and can proceed to purchase from the business’ mobile site. Read more about the Instagram shoppable posts below.

Instagram has already driven its efforts towards shopping by adding shoppable tags, adding a shopping channel to Explore and introducing in-app checkout.

Reportedly, they were also planning to launch a standalone shopping app, but given their attempts to improve shopping on the platform itself, the launch of the standalone app seems unlikely, at least anytime soon. Additionally, with a number of ecommerce platforms already at play, a standalone Instagram shopping app

Targeted ads happen to revolve around the users’ interests, shopping posts as ads would mean more ‘call to action’ or performance-oriented advertising on the platform, which might drive sales instead of just driving engagement.

According to reports, Facebook is also testing a checkout feature for dynamic ads. A user can purchase a product found via a dynamic ad, without leaving the app.
