The new channel will be set up under the state-run broadcaster Doordarshan and will be designed and managed by startups themselves, Finance Minister said. The channel will promote new businesses and enable matchmaking with venture capitalists. Aside from funding, the channel will also provide resources for tax planning.

Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) also proposed to start a reality show for Indian startups along the lines of Shark Tank.

A show of this kind will encourage creativity and innovations and this will also give startups a higher profile.

Currently, Doordarshan operates 21 channels, including two all-India channels (DD National and DD News), 17 regional satellite channels, 11 state networks, an international channel (DD India), a sports channel (DD Sports), DD Bharati, DD Urdu and DD Kisan.
