Instagram recently has revealed two new additions to their platform that will allow its users to shop for products within the app. This of course is different from Instagram shops. Users will now be able to shop directly on IGTV and the platform is planning to test the same feature on their newest addition ‘Reels’ as well.
On an Instagram post, Just Osofsky, Chief Operating office and VP, Global Operations of Facebook, revealed the new feature and mentioned the step to help creators and small businesses to have more options to earn revenue on the platform. The social media giant believes this will help users find products they love while supporting a small business or a creator they follow and love.
The products will show up to the users once the creators tag them on their IGTV videos. Creators can add more than one product which users will be able to browse through by accessing the shop icon on the bottom. From there users can add the products to their bag or bookmark/save them for later.

Users will have the option to either shop products directly from Instagram to they can purchase them by visiting the website of the retailer. The platform will start testing the similar feature on Reels as well, but there is no confirmation from Instagram about the release. Instagram Reels was, no doubt, released to be a competition to TikTok and adding the ability to shop will definitely give it an edge over the latter. IGTV and Reels shopping can prove to be a great medium for marketers and creators around the world.
