Scentials raises $3.6 million by Unilever

Scentials, a beauty and wellness company has raised $3.6 Millions in a recent Series A funding. The round saw the participation by Unilever’s VC fund and Unilever ventures.

The recent investments will be used to expand its offerings by launching new lines and limited editions. Scentials is looking forward to offering a collection of beauty products with the launch of makeup line with Malaika Arora.

Scentials is launched in 2018 by Mahesh Bhupathi (former Tennis Player) and Jinesh Mehata. It offers a line of work skin care products, fragrances curated by top celebrities and fashionistas of India.

In January, the company launched Virat Kohli’s One8 brand in the fragrance line and followed with the launch of an “Arias”, a line of Skincare with Lara Dutta (former Miss Universe and Bhupathi’s wife).

Mahesh Bhupathi, the co-founder, commented that,

“There have been multiple success stories with celebrity beauty brands and licenses in the west and with our product and distribution offering we feel we are able to offer the celebrity an opportunity to create serious value.”

Scentials products are available across Amazon.in, Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle, Health & Glow, and More Supermarkets.

Pawan Chaturvedi, investment director, Unilever Ventures, responded,

“Scentials is building a unique beauty brands studio platform that combines fast-paced innovations across beauty categories with endorsements from top tier Indian celebrities in sports, films and entertainment. The celebrity partnerships provide massive traditional and social media to reach driving brand salience.”

Gone are the days where stars endorsed as brand ambassadors for brands. They are now donning as investors and founders that includes megastars like Salman Khan for Being Human, Deepika Padukone who founded All About You, Hrithik’s HRX, Yuvraj’s YouWeCan, and Anushka Sharma’s fashion line Nush.

With the involvement of celebrities in founding startups, it was expected to reach $3.5 billion in the Indian beauty market.
