Pinterest has overtaken Snapchat when it comes to popularity among US users. It is now the third-largest social media platform in the United States, and it’s expected to keep the position for the foreseeable future.

These details came from eMarketer, that saw Pinterest grabbing more than 82 million users in 2019. While Snapchat managed around 80 million users which is notable since Snapchat has a much bigger user base compared to Pinterest in the last few years.

As per eMarketer reports:

“Pinterest saw 9.1% growth in 2019, a revision from our previous estimate of 4.3% growth. This year, it will have 86.0 million users, compared with Snapchat’s 83.1 million. The gap between the two platforms’ user bases will continue to grow through the end of our forecasting period in 2023.”

This huge hike in the popularity seems to have happened since the platform appeals to multiple age groups, whereas Snapchat is mainly focused towards the younger audience.

Pinterest’s users are more evenly represented across all age groups as a percentage of the general population, while Snapchat’s are much more skewed in the younger age groups.

When it comes to the total number of users in 2020 on a social media platform in the US, more than 41% them are Pinterest users in 2020, which is expected to grow over the year. Meanwhile, Snapchat is expected to gain users this year but might fall next year.
