Twitter, Inc. to fight spam and bot accounts that led to the increase of users followers has now limited its follow number base to 400 accounts per day. Usually, Twitter used to allow 1000 follows per day, but due to the rising of spam and bot follow-ups, it took a radical turn where it has dropped down the limit for more than a half follow-ups.
On the limiting of follows, a Twitter spokesperson stated that
“As a part of our commitment to building a healthy service, we remain focused on stopping spam and abuse on Twitter. We found that having a high daily follow rate contributed to follower churn, and as a result, we are reducing the daily follow rate limit from 1,000 to 400.”
Once a user reaches the daily limit, he/she will have a pop-up where they won’t be able to follow any more accounts for the day. After 24 hours, the user will be able to follow more accounts but with the same 400 as a limit.

In Twitter, Follower churn is the method of following and unfollowing accounts. It is done to grab the attention of users and make people follow back to increase one’s follower count.
The change in the Twitter rules are not new to the users. Last year, the online news platform restricted the “bulk tweeting” which allows accounts to tweet on the same content from various accounts.
Twitter also updated on new reporting tools that enable users to mark on bots with a verification process that is a mandate to confirm the identity with an email address or phone number when a new account is created.
