Yashish Dahiya : The man who revolutionized Indian Insurance Sector

Yashish Dahiya, CEO & Co-Founder, PolicyBazaar.com holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from IIT Delhi, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM Ahmedabad, and an MBA from INSEAD. He started his career as a Business Unit Head at Illinois Tool Works and later moved on to Bain & Co. to work as a Management Consultant. Before starting his entrepreneurial journey with PolicyBazaar.com, he worked with First Europa, a Global Online Insurance Broker, as their CEO. At First Europa, he was responsible for leading the global expansion and managing the business of the company across 9 geographical locations. He has also had experience of working with an online travel aggregator, ebors.com, a leading pan-European online travel agency and led their business as the Managing Director.

Entrepreneurial Journey

Dahiya learned a lot about entrepreneurship while working for insurance company First Europa as well as online travel platform ebookers.com. Eventually, he carried forward this experience to establish PolicyBazaar in 2008 with Alok Bansal who is also the CFO of the company.

About Policy Bazaar

The company was started with a motivation to provide an easy to use platform that helps insurance customers to compare their options and make the best possible choice. The company was formed in 2008 and headquartered at Gurgaon Haryana and began its operations in 2008 as a key force in establishing an informative online financial services platform in India.

Over the last nine years, the company has marked a staggering growth in terms of consumer traffic and number of people using the platform to buy insurance products to become the “destination site” for all insurance related queries amongst Indian consumers.

Policy Bazaar Today

This year, PolicyBazaar’s insurance business alone is expected to fetch over Rs 30 billion worth of premiums. Overall revenue is around Rs 6 to 7 billion with a profit of around Rs 1 billion. All existing investors have contributed to the current round of fundraising which helped the company raise up to $236 million and enter the unicorn club. He even convinced his family to pitch in a few million in the round.

Personal Life

Dahiya is as enthusiastic about sports and fitness as he is about his business ventures and is known to spend his free time swimming or cycling. He has also participated in the Iron Man Triathlon which is one of the toughest endurance races in the world.
