The Maharashtra startup week, an effort to encourage, engage and enable the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Maharashtra has been the primary center for commercial, financial and industrial activity in India for decades. It is the most entrepreneurial state in India and has been at the forefront of economic growth. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis aims, to make Maharashtra a hub for startups. For this the Maharashtra state innovation society (MSInS) has announced a program on April 25, under the department of skill development and entrepreneurship, government of Maharashtra in which people with many innovative ideas of their startups in any sectors like agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure and mobility, governance also including the new age sectors biotechnology, blockchain, artificial intelligence, internet of things can participate.
The Maharashtra State Innovation Society came into existence on 18th August 2017. It has been established as a World-Class Innovation Ecosystem. The main objective of this society is to provide an innovation Promotion Platform to academics, entrepreneurs, researchers, and government draws upon national and international experiences to foster a culture of innovation in the state.
What is Maharashtra State StartUp Week?
Maharashtra State Startup Week is the straight one week programme which is going to held from June 25 to June 29. This programme provides a platform to showcase the innovative ideas of the new companies to the state government.
The goal of the startup week?
The main goal of this startup week is to bring younger entrepreneurs, traders, consultants, and mentors at one place to showcase their ideas.
During this week, each day ten startups from each sector will be selected by the panel, and then top 3 startup ideas will be finalized. That means a total of 24 startups are to be selected and for those startups to be implemented and come into life within the state, a sum of Rs.15 lakhs from Maharashtra innovation society is been given. Further, the startups will be receiving the support and guidance from the government in terms of machinery and mentoring from the partners of this programme for a period of 12 months till the idea is grounded with a solution. Also, other top 100 startups are to be finalized for which the funds and mentorship is provided by the partner organizations.
Partner Organizations:
The primary strategic partner is the Tata Trusts’ Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (FISE). The partner organizations include SOCIAL ALPHA as strategy partner, INDIAN ANGEL NETWORK, MUMBAI ANGEL NETWORK as investment partners, SPRINGBOARD as the community partner, 10,000 startups and DIGITAL IMPACTS as incubation partners, UnLTD INDIA and TREE LIFE as ecosystem partner and few other.
The idea behind this startup week
In the words of Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, “We understand that running startup is an immensely satisfying job. But at the same time, it is also a humongous responsibility, and that is why we are going to provide the entrepreneurs with a supportive environment to flourish. As a part of this mission, we recently introduced a dynamic Maharashtra state innovative startup policy. And now, we are going to take this mission ahead, we are opening the business to government (B2G) market opportunities through the Maharashtra startup week. We believe that this initiative is the first of the many successful initiatives to come.”
Minister of skill development and entrepreneurship Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar said,” We invite startups from sectors such as education, skilling, healthcare, agriculture, clean energy, environment, water and waste management, smart infrastructure, mobility, governance, financial inclusion, cybersecurity to submit their applications to the Maharashtra state innovation society from April 25 to May 31.” He told, “ We will nurture the winning startups by hand-holding and guiding them”.” we are also focusing on encouraging at least five startups from each district and mainly entrepreneurs from rural areas by hand-holding and guiding them. Our ultimate goal is to create self-employment and employment.”
Eligibility to apply
All the startups that come into the criteria that the Maharashtra State Innovative startup Policy 2018 can apply. The focus areas include agriculture, healthcare, governance, human capital, sensible cities, sustainability, Fintech and cyber security and miscellaneous categories.
- One must be incorporated as a private company or as a limited liability partnership in India.
- The turnover must not be exceeded to Rs.25 Cr in any of the financial years.
- The startups must have a “minimum viable product” and demonstrate “proof of concept”
Timeline
The last date to apply for the Maharashtra Startup Week, 2018 is June 5, 2018. The results will be notified on or before June 18, 2018. The 100 finalists, judged by the panel will be attending a boot camp on June 23 and 24. And the startup week continues from June 25 to 29.
