Mahesh Murthy is a marketer and investor in India. He is a Co-Founder and serves as Managing Director, Managing Partner, Founding Partner and Partner at Seedfund. Mr. Murthy is the Founder of Passionfund.com, which he founded in 2000. Mr. Murthy is the Founder and serves as Chief Executive Officer at Pinstorm Technologies Private Limited. Pinstorm is a digital advertising agency formed in 2004.
Mahesh Murthy Early Life:
Mahesh was born in a Tamil Brahmin family and went to Kendriya Vidyalaya school in Secunderabad. His father served the Indian army. After schooling, Mahesh joined Osmania University to study chemical engineering, from where he dropped out.
Mahesh Murthy Professional Life:
Murthy started his career as a Vaccum cleaner salesman for Eureka Forbes. While working for Eureka Forbes, he founded his first company, a cleaning service called Vaclean. After that, he worked for advertising agencies like FCB and Grey Advertising. While working there he won many awards.
He then moved to Hong Kong where he worked for clients like Unilever, The Economist, HP, Microsoft, Pepsi, and MTV. He even directed films for MTV for which he won the New Directors’ Showcase award at the Cannes Lions.
Mahesh then returned to India to run Channel V, a rival to MTV, till its sale to Newscorp in 2000 and then founded Passionfund to invest in startups. Some of his investees include Geodesic , Compassbox – acquired by Careerlauncher, Cypherix, Indiaproperties, EBS and Webdunia.
In 2003 He founded digital marketing firm Pinstorm and in 2006 co-founded early-stage fund Seedfund with Pravin Gandhi and Bharti Jacob which funded companies such as Carwale, Voonik, RedBus, Chumbak, Done By None, MyDentist, Heckyl, and Edusports. Mahesh is also a columnist for The Wall Street Journal.
