After years of fighting for the equality, LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) group in America with the whole world is celebrating their liberty. On June 25th, the United States Supreme Court ruled by a 5-to-4 vote that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage in all 50 states. “No longer may this liberty be denied,” were the words of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy who has a huge contribution to this historic decision.
Since, they have been getting support globally, in no way Facebook would have been left. Facebook introduced a new feature that lets users show off their support for marriage equality by superimposing a rainbow over their profile picture.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg personally announced the Celebrate Pride tool on his personal page following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that same-sex couples have the constitutional right to marry. He himself changed his profile picture with the rainbow imposed photo.
Mark Zuckerberg in a Facebook post wrote “I’m so happy for all of my friends and everyone in our community who can finally celebrate their love and be recognized as equal couples under the law,”. Further added “We still have much more to do to achieve full equality for everyone in our community, but we are moving in the right direction.”
Since then, millions of supporters and many organizations have turned their profile images rainbow imposed showing their support for LGBTQ group. The White House is one of them, the facebook page looked after by Government of The United States itself, changed their profile picture to Celebrate Pride.
Twitter also didn’t let such a moment of celebration go. Twitter added a tool through which one can automatically make a tiny rainbow heart appear in their tweet by including the #LoveWins hashtag.
Let’s make this global, If LGBTQ in the US can have the liberty why not India and rest of the world? Let’s stand with them and fight until they get equality.
