The wait is over. Audio streaming platform Spotify finally launched in India. The world’s largest music streaming service is available across various devices. It is made possible with an ad-supported free subscription tier, as well in premium tiers in India.
Spotify Premium Subscription price in India is a price for Rs. 119 for a month and Rs. 1189 per year. It caters top-up packs for users who do not want to pay for the recurring subscription. The top packs start surprisingly at Rs. 13 for a day and can cost approximately Rs.719 for 6 months. A 30-day free trial is available once you sign into Spotify.
The music streaming service in India is made available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Punjabi.
Spotify founder Daniel Ek in a statement said, “India has an incredibly rich music culture, and to best serve this market, we’re launching a custom-built experience. Not only will Spotify bring Indian artists to the world, but we will also bring the world’s music to fans across India. We have been working towards this goal for quite some time, and I am thrilled with today’s launch.”
Spotify is a Sweden-based music streaming platform launched on 7 October 2008 which provides DRM protected music and podcasts from record labels and media companies. It’s the highest number of paying subscribers in the world. The company offers access to more than 40 million tracks where a user can browse by any given parameters. Spotify had 207 million monthly users which include 96 million paying subscribers till date.
Spotify is made available for all smartphones and tablet similar to the apps which are free to download for Android and iOS users, Sony PlayStation, Windows 10 PCs, Microsoft Xbox, macOS computing devices and also through the web browser. It is also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in-car platforms.
Spotify seems like locking horns with services like Apple Music, Jio Saavn, Amazon Music, and Google Play Music. It has already collaborated with T-Series and Sony for music rights in India.
Google play Music charges Rs 99/month. The cheapest that costs amongst the other streaming platforms is Amazon Music for Rs 1000 per year.
