Reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong revealed on Twitter that the platform might consider changing its ‘Lists’ tab to ‘Channels’ in the app. This step is supposed to encourage better content discovery and exposure.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the list tab on the left panel has been replaced by ‘Channels’. Though there aren’t any changes to the functionality of the feature. If you click on it, you’ll be able to see the collection of all the lists you have created. Twitter has been working towards putting more focus on topics, they added the ability to follow topics users like instead of just following profiles. They also allow an option to pin a list within the app. Considering all these features, this change makes a lot of sense.

On the IOS app you can pin five lists that you like, change their order and swipe if you want to access them.

This feature allows you to discover tweets quickly instead of being confined to your feed. You can now keep up with the topic that you are interested in. This allows you to stay up to date with trending topics across the internet, while still being able to interact with your news feed regularly.

With this feature you’ll be able to create groups of people that you follow, under different names such as Top follows or friends and create lists in channels to follow topic you like. You could then switch channels with just a swipe from your main feed. New users joining Twitter will also be able to understand how they can use this feature to enhance their app experience.

At this moment there is no confirmation from Twitter regarding any changes to the feature, or whether it is being developed as a priority. We might no see this feature for a long time until Twitter confirms it. We’ll just have to wait and see when Twitter will roll out this feature.
