Facebook’s popular photo-sharing app Instagram promoted Vishal Shah as the head of product on 10 Dec 2019.

We all heard the news about the former vice president of product Adam Mosseri was promoted to head of Instagram, beginning of October after that we did not hear much about the role. On Monday, Instagram confirmed about tapping the vacant position by appointing Vishal Shah to the role as a head of product for the whole of Instagram.

Vishal Shah joined Instagram in 2015 after his stint at Turn as a Senior Director Of Product Management. Shah, oversaw Instagram’s shopping efforts, IGTV video service, search, explore revenue products divisions, and ad products until he appointed for the prestigious position. Now Shah will be directly reporting to Adam Mosseri about the stats and updates.

Facebook spokesperson confirmed the role in a statement from Mosseri to Recode:

I am thrilled that Vishal Shah is Instagram’s new Head of Product. Vishal is an experienced manager with deep product knowledge who lives out Instagram’s values of people first, simplicity, and craft. He is a great addition to our leadership team, and I look forward to working with him in this new role.

The year, 2018 has been a tumultuous year for Instagram regarding the leadership because Instagram’s executive changes are overshadowed by parent company Facebook due to some public crisis virtually every week.

Vishal’s promotion takes care of at least one of the important updates and features, and on this particular note, an important one made all the more critical by Systrom, co-founder and detail-obsessed designer of Instagram who approved every single Instagram ad. Systrom’s departure drove to some concerns externally that the app could get messed up in the wrong hands.

Facebook cannot take the risk of letting this kind of things happen to Instagram because it has become the company’s most potential product. As we know that the photo-video sharing app is struggling with some of the morale and retention concerns. Many employees were shocked when Systrom and Krieger left and felt as if Facebook took control over Instagram operations, which added morale issues. It is rumored that, tracking every incident which created a mess and to alleviate some of that frustration Facebook promoted Shah who worked at Instagram for almost four years.

Hopefully, should never hear again about the sudden resignations or any morale issues further and reckon with by considering the considerable demand Instagram has.
