The ed-tech portal is India’s largest free education company that builds an educational repository and makes it accessible to everyone.
Bengaluru-based Unacademy is founded in 2015 by Gaurav Munjal, Hemesh Singh, Roman Saini, and Sachin Gupta. The startup initially an Educational YouTube Channel, and in January 2016, they launched Unacademy.in, which helps students to learn via videos for free.
The Four Founders

Gaurav and Hemesh before co-founding this company were operating a startup called Flat.To which was acquired in 2014 by CommonFloor.
Roman on the other side, is a doctor from AIIMS and the youngest to crack the Civil Services Examination. He served as an Assistant Collector of Jabalpur, who surprisingly left the job and co-founded the ed-tech platform.
Roman once told to media that “It was very hard to step down from IAS. Aside from other things, there is a lot of social prestige associated with being an IAS officer.” But he still chose to be a full-time entrepreneur.
The Education system, which they are not satisfied
With the Unacademy, the founders want to break the traditional teaching methods that are breaking the bridge between students and education methods. They feel like classroom education has choked many young brilliant minds. And not many free learning platforms are in India who strive to work at this extent.
The company proudly claims that it is not fighting a race and even if 2/3rd of the people can solve them would be enough to help India develop.
