International Tiger Day, celebrated on 29th July, is a global, annual initiative to increase awareness of the declining numbers of wild tigers and help in their conservation. As per the survey report published by National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) 2014, there are about 3890 tigers left in the world and face the verge of extinction. The tiger reserves of Karnataka provide habitat to approximately 406 tigers, from the estimated population of 2226 tigers in India.

Kādu, India’s first wine for a cause, supports tiger conservation, with a donation for every bottle sold. The wine is exclusively produced at Sula Vineyard’s second winery in Karnataka – home to the tigers on the planet in its many reserves. Cheering on the cause with each bottle, the brand is doing every bit to save the mighty animal.

Located on the Bangalore-Mysore highway, Sula Vineyard’s second winery; Heritage Winery is truly a paradise with lush green paddy fields and serene lakes. India’s largest and most awarded wine brand, has sustainability etched in its core values and is depicted well in the design of this vineyard. Solar panels on the roof use the same rays that help the grapes to grow to fuel the facility, and the whole area is plastic free. Did you know that 99% of Sula Vineyards packaging is recyclable? Dedicated efforts have been made towards maximizing productivity while minimizing adverse effects on the environment.

Kādu, crafted by winemaker Gorakh Gaikwad, is proudly known as India’s first wine for a cause with good reason. Collaborating with Sanctuary Nature Foundation, Sula Vineyards contributes a small fraction of amount towards the conservation of tigers with every purchase of Kādu. One of the habitats of the endangered Bengal Tiger, Karnataka was carefully chosen keeping in mind its weather and climate to produce the finest wines from the best quality grapes. Kādu, meaning “wild” in Kannada – the regional language of Karnataka is beautifully epitomized in the label with the handiwork of renowned label designer Simon Frouws depicting a tiger in all its glory in the wild jungle.

Working towards protecting the majestic beast and India’s national animal, Kādu is a homage to Karnataka as one of India’s most important wine regions and is the fruit of the brands efforts to bring the best from Karnataka’s terroir to your glass.

To ensure the optimum end-use of the funds contributed, Sula Vineyards has collaborated with Mud on Boots, the pioneering initiative by the Sanctuary Nature Foundation that is designed to empower and support grassroots conservationists across India.

Ashwin Gurusrikar, Vanodaya Wildlife Trust, speaking on the occasion of International Tiger Day said, “When Sula Vineyards through Sanctuary Nature Foundation’s Mud on Boots project decided to fund Vanodaya, our conservation activities across the forests of Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary became more structured and formal. It brought in more discipline in terms of documentation of our efforts and systematic approach towards all activities of our NGO. By helping volunteer groups who are not formally educated to get specialized grants, Sula Vineyards has empowered not only serious wildlife enthusiasts from Bangalore, but also about 25 committed village level volunteers to take up conservation through their support. Overall Sula Vineyards and Vanodaya can be proud of the association, which has led to 410 Sq kms of Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary being well protected. We thank both, Sula Vineyards and Sanctuary Nature Foundation immensely for their contributions, support and hope it continues in the future too.
